Ghost in the Window

Here is a picture of how our front window "ghost" scene looks at night. We have 2 black lights posted on the wall to illuminate the ghost. A fan off to the side provides some movement. The spider webs are glow activated so they also pick up the rays of the black light.

I added my favorite flashing flicker lights - some Halloween lights I wish I had purchased more of. I can't find these anymore. They kind of remind me of lightning. Very fun! Of course, this effect looks much better in person.

Chocolate Anyone?

Well, we started to buy our Halloween candy for this year. Lots of fun stuff... Chocolate of course, and other creepy candies. Yummy!

The Halloween houses are being put out... here are a couple. These two happen to be my mom's on "loan" for this season. They are new and look really pretty in person. We are considering having a Halloween village set up for the trick or treaters to look at (protected by some barrier, of course) but I haven't worked those details out yet and I'm not sure if we will. But it would be a great thing to see!

I finally finished the second window scene, spooky pumpkins and a flickering skull lamp. Now we have to put out the outdoor lights. We'll have these decorations on every night starting in October and for Halloween night we will have our cemetery and other fun things set out!

Haunted Mansion

Greetings foolish mortals...

That's the first thing your "ghost host" says as you enter the Haunted Mansion. This is by far, my favorite ride at Disney World (very close tie with Pirates of the Caribbean). Walt Disney himself worked on designing the attraction that first featured in Disneyland - featuring 999 Grim Grinning Ghosts who call the Mansion home. There's room for a thousand... any volunteers??

When you reach the gates of the Haunted Mansion, you'll here the lone cry of a dog or wolf - in the distance - beckoning for you to visit.

Up on a hill sits the Mansion in all its glory - at night it's even creepier.

Just before you enter the Mansion, you'll stand next to the graveyard. I've seen many a young toddler loose it and chicken out before heading inside. They are a little young and just get scared! I love the tombstones and their witty epithets...

This is Leota's tombstone. Leota Thomas was a Disney Imagineer who worked for Disney. Leota's face is the image in the crystal ball inside the Haunted Mansion. The voice, however, was Eleanor Audley (also the voice of Sleeping Beauty's Maleficent and Cinderella's Lady Tremaine). Disney made this wonderful tombstone to honor Leota after her passing. Her eyes move and watch you as you pass. "In regions beyond now, but having a ball."

Ghost Window Scene

Well, I'm really excited about my front window scene. I've constructed a ghost dummy that will stand in the middle window, illuminated by a black light. Bewitching spiderwebs will hang from the ceiling and glow too. Here's a picture of the construction in the front room - it is going to look pretty neat at night with the black lights on...

More Spooky Fun

Today I've been sorting the Halloween decorations - deciding what will go where. I'll start by adding the exterior lights and a ghost scene in the window.

The Halloween houses are all lined up in the living room, waiting for their new homes. Brandon gets excited about the houses and he's been asking me when I will put them out. So I am going to work on that over the next few days.

The weather needs to cool down so I can start working in the garage. We're having our little carnival in part of it this year. I know the weather was great about a week ago - and wouldn't you know I was in Florida! Speaking of Florida, here are some more pictures from the Halloween Party at Disney World...

Here is another view of Main Street - this time there is a bat flying around. If you look closely you can see the jack-o-lanterns that are in the windows of the buildings.

My mom is looking absolutely dead, thanks to the humid weather that night!

How cool, I got to take a picture with Captain Hook outside of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride (which by the way, I love the new Jack Sparrow additions!)

This is part of the Halloween parade, complete with the dancers of the Haunted Mansion. And don't they look nice and dead and gloomy! But of course!

Halloween Party at Disney

At Disney World we went to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. This event is a "hard ticket" event which means you have to buy a separate ticket to get in (not just your theme park tickets). They have a special Halloween parade and 360 fireworks and lots of trick or treating for everyone. Here are some of the pictures from it, I'll be posting more!

During the day you pass these signs - telling you about the party. These events have become very popular, thanks to Disney's advertising and word of mouth!

The entry to the Magic Kingdom is transformed into a spooky site!

When you walk down Main Street, all the buildings are lit up in eerie colors and images of bats, ghosts and pumpkins fly up and down the walls. In this picture you'll see I "captured" a ghost on the camera. Cool hua? Creepy music is played through the park - and especially the Haunted Mansion theme!

Here I am, trying my best not to smile and look very eerie as a ghost. I have my trick or treating bag full of candy!

Halloween or Bust

OK. I'm back from our week in Florida. We had lots of fun, but a week is a long time and I got pretty homesick. Not to mention - Disney World is just plain exhausting, no matter how hard you try to pace yourself. I took a few pictures of the Haunted Mansion and it's tombstones, and our pictures from the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. When I get the pictures uploaded I will post them with all the details!

Now that our trip is out of the way - it's time to get ready for Halloween! I know my blog has been very lacking but from now on out until Halloween I'm going to post stuff almost every day. Wish me luck!

Spooky Contacts

Well, today I finally got glasses. This is brand new to me, since I have never wore glasses before. I'd love to be able to get some spooky contacts. I've found some pretty cool ones. However they are really pricey and I would love to spend that money on Halloween stuff! One of these days, maybe I will get some. Of course there is the issue of actually getting the things in my eyes, and out again. I'll tackle that when the time comes.

So here are my new duds!

September's Here!

Finally it's September - which means one thing - October is next!

I have been pretty busy with work, so I have not had much time to post.

Brandon came home from his parents with a spooky cow skull - that glows red. It is absolutely perfect for our "pet cemetary" that we will have this year. I can't wait to get started on some tombstones.

I'm going to Disney World with my mom next Sunday and we are soooo excited. We've decided to dress up as ghosts for the Halloween party they have there. Yea, I know, a Halloween party in September. I love it! LOL
